Temple and Farringdon Together team member, and current councilman Edward Lord has today written to the Lord Mayor asking for the Bar and other City-based professionals to be recognised in the same way as the City’s financial services industries.
Each year, there are dinners at Mansion House for the City’s bankers and merchants, regulators, and leaders of trade and industry. There is no such event for barristers, solicitors, accountants, surveyors, and other professional advisers.
Edward said:
“It seems perverse that the City Corporation offers formal recognition to the financial services industry, when London is also a global hub for legal and other professional advisers.
In our ward of Farringdon Without, we are right at the heart of the multi-billion pound legal sector, with two Inns of Court, over 50 Barristers’ Chambers, and a dozen international law firms. Their contribution to the economy and society should be acknowledged by the City that they call home.”
