The Temple and Farringdon Together team have been hearing complaints about the serious risks local firms and barristers’ chambers are facing as a result of the business rate revaluation which comes into effect on 1st April this year.
Greg Lawrence CC and Paul Martinelli CC, themselves owners of local businesses and members of the City Corporation’s Finance Committee, are committed to reviewing the impact of the revaluation on ratepayers in our area.
Edward Lord OBE CC, a member of the City’s senior Policy Committee said:
“The head of one large barristers’ chambers in the Temple told me recently that they may need to move or downsize the space they rent due to the huge increase they face in business rates. This is a real threat to the nature of our local area. Times are hard enough for the publicly funded bar. They don’t need this as well.”
